Price changes are coming to my pattern store

I’m updating my pattern store to revamp all my existing sock patterns. Effective July 3, 2026, all sock patterns will include:

  • Two new sizes. That means six sizes total to fit foot circumferences 6–11 in (15–28 cm). In other words, my socks can fit from a toddler up to a big-and-tall person!
  • Print guides and hand-drawn coloring sheets/diagrams
  • Improved Notes/Tips sections to help you make the best socks possible
  • Yardage requirements listed for every size, not just the largest
  • Improved colorwork charts
  • Easier-to-read layout, general quality of life improvements, and an overall better format

What this means for you

All of my current patterns are priced at $5 USD. Once the above updates are live, the prices will increase to $6–$6.50 depending on the pattern. The table below outlines the exact price changes:

All Tomato SocksIncreasing from $5 to $6.50 USD
Pickle Barrel SocksIncreasing from $5 to $6.50 USD
Frankfooter SocksIncreasing from $5 to $6 USD
Sock Pretzel!Increasing from $5 to $6 USD

Future patterns will be priced according to complexity/features (e.g., a pattern that includes instructions for multiple design views will be slightly more expensive, while more basic patterns will be less).

Buy before July 3 to lock in the original pricing!

This is a small but important change, and I wanted to share it in advance so that folks could have the opportunity to purchase any patterns they’ve had their eye on before the prices go up. If you buy any of my current patterns before July 3, you’ll pay the original $5 and still get access to all the glorious updates once they’re live!

Why the increase?

I don’t design sock patterns to make money. In fact, I haven’t really earned anything since I started designing in December 2025. Most of my earnings were donated to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. The rest have been a net loss in relation to yarn costs, writing/tech editing, and test knitting. I do this as a passion project, not a source of income.

That said, just because I’m in it for fun doesn’t mean that other designers don’t rely on pattern sales to make a living or earn some much needed extra income—especially in the current economic climate. I don’t want my prices to be so competitive that they devalue other designers, and that’s what I would be doing if I kept my pricing the same as what other sock designers charge for only half the sizes I offer. These price changes are my attempt at creating equity among my patterns and aligning with the value that other designers already bring.

For the consumer, knitting patterns are often the least expensive cost associated with a knitting project. I want to keep it that way. With these price changes, I’m trying to find the sweet spot between valuing my (and other designers’) work while still being affordable for knitters.

If you can’t afford the price increase, I don’t hold that against you. I’m hoping that, with these changes, I can start hosting semi-regular sales and/or introductory promotions to make things a little easier.
