Because my pockets were full of Runts candy! … I ate it on the way over here. That’s what they’re for. They’re my traveling Runts.

Introducing the newest addition to my Food for Feet sock pattern collection: Foot by the Fruit. Available in six sizes to fit toddlers up to big-and-tall adults, these socks are the perfect summer project for knitters looking for fun, flare, and color!

The Foot by the Fruit socks are inspired by Runts candies. I came up with the idea after attending a Three Birds Yarn trunk show at Arkansas Yarn Co and seeing all the vibrant tonal yarns they had on display.

Three Birds Yarn is a dyer local to my home state of Arkansas, and I’m so excited to share that they have a limited number of Foot by the Fruit kits available for purchase! The kits include all the yarn you need to make your very own pair of Foot by the Fruit socks, whether knit with stripes or all-over colorwork. They also include the pattern, so if you purchase the kit, there’s no need to purchase the pattern separately.

These are the most readily customizable socks I’ve designed to date. The pattern includes instructions for two different styles: one with Runts-inspired colorwork on the leg and gleeful stripes on the foot, the other with all-over colorwork. You can knit your own pair with as few or as many colors as you want — repeat the banana chart for an a-peel-ing pair, swap out colors to make blueberries instead of grapes, work only the strawberries for a sweetheart motif — the possibilities are endless!

Foot by the Fruit will fit foot circumferences 6–11 in (15–28 cm). They can be worked with negative ease or zero ease, meaning they’ll be a perfect fit for kids and grown-ups alike. The forethought heel construction makes it easy to add an extra pop of contrast, or you can keep things simple and stick with your main color like I did. This type of heel suits a variety of insteps and is easy to customize to your precise fit needs. Plus, if you ever wear your heels thin, they’ll be super easy to repair! A lot of my test knitters had never done a forethought heel before and ended up being super pleased with the process and fit. Don’t worry, though; if you already have a favorite heel construction, you can easily substitute it.

Thank you to my test knitters who gave me such wonderful feedback and shared my enthusiasm for this design. This was my favorite test knit to date, and I’m so grateful to everyone who joined me along the way!
